Noh (能楽) is one of the world’s oldest continuously performed theatrical traditions, dating to 14th-century Japan. Performers wear hand-carved cypress masks to portray spirits, nobles, and demons — each mask expressing shifting emotion through the angle of light alone. The kagaribi (篝火) iron fire baskets seen here originally lit outdoor Noh performances after dark, their flickering flames an integral part of the atmosphere.
Framed in a narrow black portrait frame. Great condition — no fading, tears, or damage.
